HISTORIC LINCOLN PARK CHURCH FACADE

Lincoln Park’s South Park Calvary Presbyterian Church is one of the oldest anchor institutions in the Lincoln Park Neighborhood and a symbol of freedom for Black, Indigenous People of Color in Newark. It was a house of worship where Black ministers were often invited to preach while also served as the home to Newark’s largest women’s club- The Contemporary Club. It was Newark’s first racially integrated presbyterian church and an architectural to behold. Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District (LPCCD) began restoration around 2008, just before the economic downturn.

LINCOLN PARK TEN YEAR NEIGHBORHOOD PLAN

The residents and stakeholders of Lincoln Park, along with the Community Assistance Preservation Corporation and the Lincoln Park Coast Cultural District, utilized a planning grant from the Wells Fargo Regional Foundation (now known as the Regional Foundation) to evaluate the needs of the neighborhood, establish goals, and develop a 10-year plan for its future.
